St. Marks 9/28 - The Grind

What started out as a clear win for the pinfish (need to reload 4in plastics) ended up with dinner on the table.

Things were hit and miss all day with no real pattern were fish were holding east of the the Rock Garden. Things seemed to die off
past high tide. Got the last cast in around 6:30pm.


Couldn't buy a red, but landed some keeper trout including a 22 incher up along the flooded grass along a bank.
The only constant was the bite was strongest on the top-water. I landed most of my fish with a Heddon spook, including the 22 incher,
and had some trout hit jigs on landing when too much grass was present.

The water quality was clear and the water felt cooler, but the wind plus a strong tide with floating grass made drifting
a bit more challenging. Up in the creeks were more favorable with getting retrieves without the side salad, otherwise
water seemed more less clogged with grass closer to the lighthouse.

The daily bonus was having a dolphin swim around the boat while taking a break from driving the mullet in a creek. Never gets old.

Bottom line it was a grind but it beats sitting at home. Anyone find the reds?

We found no reds over the Ecofina way. It seems the trout were schooled up in patches. Wound up with a nice box of trout. Got there around noon left at 6.
We did catch trout up the creek mouths.

Found reds to 23.5" in tidal creeks east of the lighthouse today, but probably on opposite tide conditions from yours on Saturday. I fished last 2 hours of outgoing morning tide, which often seems to activate reds in refuge creeks.

Good to have some reports, thanks. The fish are biting!! We found trout in small schools Thursday also, never a steady bite for long.

Very nice. Yes, opposite tides as we fished the incoming through the beginning of outgoing while up in the mouth area of Stoney before it got too late.
Worked the bends then with the current moving to no avail.
