I know it seems a long way from us but we need to support fishermen in South Florida!
Biscayne National Park officials approved a plan that will place over 10,000 acres of prime fishing areas off limits to recreational fishermen.
Imagine if they wanted to close inside the boundary markers of the St Marks wildlife refuge to fishing??

Over a year ago, Biscayne National Park officials approved a plan that will place over 10,000 acres of prime fishing areas off limits to recreational fishermen, despite strong opposition from anglers and the state, and a total lack of scientific backing.
Fortunately, Florida’s Congressional delegation has been working to rectify this poorly-conceived plan, but we’re running out of time. Please take a moment to sign a petition urging Congress to stop the Biscayne marine reserve before the clock runs out at the end of the year.
Championed by Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Carlos Curbelo and Mario Diaz-Balart, a bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives that would ensure the State of Florida has a say in these decisions before the federal government closes down fishing in state waters.
In the Senate, a bill sponsored by Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio would prevent fishing closures in Biscayne National Park that are not developed in coordination with the state and are not based on sound fisheries management principles.

Done as well. KeepAmericaFishing is an industry group that is on board with these types of efforts. FYI, Coastal Conservation Association has been involved in this particular issue from the beginning and many others like it around the state and nation. It's one of the reasons why membership is so important. There are strength in numbers and with only a few exceptions, has affiliated state chapters all along the U.S. coastline. CCA's mission has and continues to be conserve and protect the marine resources and look out for the rights of recreational anglers. $30 for the standard membership is a cheap investment to protect the sport we all love and includes a subscription to TIDE magazine and decals.

Read about this. Overpopulated with Humans and Underpopulated with fish. The fish stocks need a break!bman wrote: Biscayne National Park officials approved a plan that will place over 10,000 acres of prime fishing areas off limits to recreational fishermen.

I can't imagine totally closing an area up here, but wouldn't be opposed to polling only zones to help promote grass health, and in turn fish populations.bman wrote:Imagine if they wanted to close inside the boundary markers of the St Marks wildlife refuge to fishing??
Re: Sign the Petition - Keep Biscayne Open
does it apply to snorkerlers, divers and motorcraft in general or just evil fisherman?

I will sign it, but this is all a part of this administrations plan. They are also designating a huge area off of New England to no fishing period. This is all a part of the one world resource program. Thanks for the hopeless change!

MudDucker you are wrong on this matter. The area in New England is a national monument but recreational fishing is allowed within its borders. It's sad to complain about the creation of a new national park just because of your politics. Without protection all of our natural resources will be gone. The national park in New England is for all of us and yet you are bitching about it. Take a break from complaining on the fishing forum about you politics and post some fish.MudDucker wrote:I will sign it, but this is all a part of this administrations plan. The new Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument consists of nearly 5,000 square miles of underwater canyons and mountains off the New England coast. It’s the 27th time that Obama has created or enlarged a national monument.
“If we’re going to leave our children with oceans like the ones that were left to us, then we’re going to have to act and we’re going to have to act boldly,” Obama said at a State Department conference. More than 20 countries represented at the meeting were also announcing the creation of their own marine protected areas.
Monument designations come with restrictions on certain activities. The White House said the designation will lead to a ban on commercial fishing, mining and drilling, though a seven-year exception will occur for the lobster and red crab industries. Others, such as whiting and squid harvesters, have 60 days to transition out. Recreational fishing will be allowed within the monument.

First, I was told this not by the media, but by a member of my wife's family who has been a fisherman in New England area all of his life. He indicated that it would create restrictions on all fishing. The locals are not happy.luckywsp wrote:MudDucker you are wrong on this matter. Second, this administration has done more to restrict recreational fishing with bogus and/or outdated studies than any in the past. That is not just politics, that is a FACT.
Third, the US Government has created too many National Parks. The federal government is not properly maintaining the ones we have, including failure to maintain protections from wild fires. There was little of anything going on that endangered that area to justify the creation of this park. They could have restricted drilling without taking this excessive measure.
Forth, no good science says that what they are doing is helping anything. While they restrict fishing in the gulf, they are needlessly blowing up old drilling platforms in such a manner that thousands upon thousands of red snapper and other fish are killed.
Lastly, the last thing we need is to join with any other country to talk about or regulate a damned thing that happens within our country and territorial waters. We have been played for suckers in this administrations deals with foreign entities and they just need to stop.

Some of these points are valid. Especially the point about blowing up the oil platforms. I was unaware if this and have looked into it. Sad stuff destroying marine habitat. Really my point is that this is a fishing forum. It is for discussing fishing. When you use it to spout political rhetoric it makes it less enjoyable for other fishermen to make use of this wonderful resource. I am sure that there are many political forums where you can talk about Trump and Hilary but I don't believe this is it. Simply look at the opening post on this thread. It discusses how we can promote positive change as fisherman listing the state representatives to call and the petition to sign. Nowhere does he discuss "the administration" or Hillary or Trump. He puts forth a good argument about something related to fishing. All I am asking is to stop talking politics or email Barry and ask him to create a politics section so I will know what parts of the forum to avoid.

Lucky, my posts in this thread were solely about the impact of government regulation on fishing. The topic of this thread is about stopping government over regulation. That over regulation is being done by this administration. I have jumped up and down on politicians from both parties on hunting and fishing issues over the years. If you need a safe area, please pm Barry.luckywsp wrote: Muducker,

I am talking about your posts in general.
"I was a Cruz guy. He ain't in the running.
Trump's #1 criteria ... he is not a lying, traitorous socialist idiot named Clinton.
#2, he is will not select a SCOTUS justice who will side with those who would remove our 2nd amendment rights.
That is all."
Excellent discussion of current fishing topics.
