OK guys, the Taylor Soil & Water Conservation District is putting on its Scallop Seminar in Steinhatchee again this year.
It's Friday, June 27th at 7:00 PM at the Steinhatchee Community Center located at 1013 Riverside Dr., Steinhatchee, FL.
We had a record turnout of 60-70 attendees last year & are hoping to continue that trend.
This year we have Lt. Scott Lee who represents the local FWC returning. He will be speaking and answering questions about scalloping, fishing & boating regulations. Last year, he did an excellent job of opening up a dialogue with visitors, local recreational fishermen and guide captains and clarifying many commonly held misconceptions about what you should & shouldn't do on the water.
We also have Dr. Geiger from the FWC Fish & Wildlife Research Institute. He will be speaking on the life cycle of the scallop, scallop abundance surveys, and the importance of sea grass conservation.
And returning again this year, we have Geoff Wallat from the Taylor County Extension office. He will be speaking about the artificial reef programs and their importance to the bait-fish populations.
There will be door prizes that have been donated from local businesses, and we will have bottled water and snacks for the guests.
If you have any questions, either post them here or send me a PM, and if you are a local business or charter captain who'd like to donate a door prize (last year we had a 1/2 day scallop charter donated by a local captain), there's still time. Just PM me and I'll let you know what you need to do.
