Good Morning!
Spinner, sounds like a fun trip to LA. I've seen TV shows from down there: Redfish bigger than the boat!

What kind of trip? Redfish/trout or tuna?
August is super hot, buggy, but there are still lots of fish. You can catch with her. No need to just look.
Reds by sight casting or cork, but there and relatively easy to catch. Done it many times.
Offshore, big fish way out. Big tuna boats, wild and woolly.

Blue spinner, good choice to let the wife put the fish in the boat. You need to add eating to the watching part of the trip have fun

If you haven’t been before you will be surprised. And happy. Econfina fishing not even close to fishing down at Venice.

Not unusual for us to catch, purely sight fishing with lures, 25-50 reds or more every day, many well over slot. This is in 18” to 4’ of water, small tidal creeks and ponds. Giant black drum common, sheep head too. Trout if you target them. My biggest bull red came from a tiny tidal creek, estimated at 35 lbs. A lot of times after catching a few bulls we let them pass because they make such a fuss in shallow water it ruins the fishing there afterwards. I use casting reels one would employ for trout here.

Now here is the deal: bag limit 5 reds, 16-27”, one over slot permitted. Trout 12”, bag 25. That’s a boatload of daily fillets, if you fancy doing that. Most days we limit out on reds, not trout because techniques and areas don’t overlap much. Normally keep one over red but no bigger than 30” or so. Bigger are all head. We have also motored to the close rigs and caught red snapper, mangroves, and cobia on calm days.
