Worse purchase ever?

Post by AugustusMccrae »

I've seen quite a few nice threads on here showing improvements to boats. Like sea deck, power poles, stereos, etc. What is the purchase/improvement you made that you regret the most? Could be for whatever reason. Mine was my first boat. Didn't know anything about anything. Had to replace the entire floor. After the repairs, I didn't have enough power to plane it due to increase in weight.
Hopefully this will be educational and might help someone avoid the same mistake.

I’ve been happy with all of my additions, except for cheap stereos/wiring. They didn’t last long and constantly had issues. Waste of money

Cheap Switches. Never lasted over 2 weeks before falling apart due to corrosion.

We bought a sealed-beam light for the boat and after 2 or 3 years(still in the package)it was completely corroded and ruined. Waste of money.

My first marriage license? :hammer: :-D

My answer is similar to Salty Gator's. I can't say I regret any of my purchases or additions but I have replaced the stereo twice and the VHF radio once in the last 13 years. :smt004

EDIT: Had to give it a lot of thought and the only thing I came up with was I thought I wanted outriggers and bought a Taco outrigger kit then decided I wasn't going to cut any more holes in the boat for the outrigger bases. They're still in the original package hanging in the boat shed . :smt011
$75 for a complete 15' outrigger kit if anyone is looking for one. :-D

Crocs. What an appropriately named shoe. You will bust your arse on a wet boat ramp with those things.

I've had that happen more than once, nothing broken though.
