Need Some Suggestions

Post by MudDucker »

Normally, I take my church's boy scout troop scalloping each year, but this year, I've gotten few good reports.

Now they want to go fishing instead, but the troop has 12 boys and that is too many for me to take at one time on my Ol' Pro.

I had a couple of guys lined up to take part of them, but then realized the 7th falls on the opening day of dove season in Georgia. Scout Master asked about fishing from shore. We will be backed into my place near Lanark.

Any suggestions on where I could take them fishing? The only place that comes to my mind is the Old St. George's Island bridge.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

How about the county park at the former Island View motel site on 98? Lot closer and good opportunities with a nice pier. I'd load 'em up with shrimp with popping corks and have at it. Maybe float a few live pinfish out on balloons. Reds, trout, flounder, black drum and sharks cruise through there.

Good luck.

SK - Just wondering, when did that park re-open? The last time I drove by there was a couple months ago but I remember it being fenced off.

Not sure. It was open the last time I was by there. Can't remember how long ago that was. Thought it was fully completed and ready for visitors. Storm damage?

Isn't there a nice pier at alligator point?

Thanks, but I rode past it yesterday and it is still closed with a locked gate and no entry sign.

Apparently clean water from the cut (now closed) really helped psj scallops.

I believe there's a pier at Mashes, unless the storm got it, if so Bald Point just across the bridge, includes a little swimming possibility when it gets hot. Real shallow at low tide, still wadable at high.

I wonder if anybody is catching anything in the surf at SGI State Park? That place is good sometimes, and you could spread the boys out on the beach so they might have some luck. The bridge might be another good spot to take them, big sailcats and sharks would keep them busy!

Ended up fishing from dock at city park in Carrabelle. They caught a few and had a good time. Shooed them off to Wakula Springs for afternoon swim. Cleaned and cooked the fish and the backup low country boil. They went home full and happy. Thanks for all the suggestions!
