28 Bertram SOLD

Post by Southern Hooker »

1974 Bertram 285
LOA: 28’ 6”
Beam: 11’ 0”
Draft: 2’ 8”
Displacement: 12,000 lbs
Fuel: 165 Gal
Water: 40 Gal

Interior: Renovated in the mid-90s with solid mahogany wood woodwork. Front V-berth sleeps 2-3, L-shaped couch sleeps 1 & has underneath storage. Freshwater sink, cabinetry, private head with electric toilet and sink, 2 lockers, 4 storage drawers plus step box storage, 35qt Engel cooler. Brand new 800watt marine power inverter (not yet installed).

Exterior: Single spreader / double rigged outriggers with cam lock halyards, 35 gal livewell, 4-rod teak rocket launcher, mounted 125qt icey-tek, teak covering boards, cockpit storage lockers, custom etched glass / teak door, saltwater washdown.

Electrical: Anchorlift vertical windless (controlled from bridge), Lenco trim tabs (need new actuators), LED cockpit spreader lights, Furuno FCV-582L, Garmin 172C, VHF, 2 batteries (2015) with perko switches, horn, 2 rule bilge pumps on float switches.

Engines: Twin, 2005 Crusader Captain’s Choice 5.7L, 315hp, Fresh-water Cooled (Carbureted 350s) with 535 hours. Mechanical Updates: New Risers & Manifolds 2016, New Starboard Carb 2015, Rebuilt Port Carb 2015, New Shaft Logs 2015.

This boat is turn-key, ready to fish or cruise. The engines have low hours for their age as the boat has primarily been used for trips to the sandbar (which is a 10-min run) for the past decade. They are running great as they have just been tuned-up and received new manifolds and risers. The shaft logs were also recently rebuilt and the struts were done a few years ago. The fuel tank is original fiberglass and has had zero issues with non-ethanol gas. Performance wise you can expect anywhere from .9 to 1.3/4mpg and 23 to 27mph at cruise, depending on load and cleanliness of the bottom. Clean and relatively light she will run 27mph at 1.3. Juicing her up into the 4 barrels she really comes alive and turns heads. She is very solid, but not perfect by any means and could use a bit of attention in some places. If you are looking for a well-outfitted fishing boat that will take you 50-miles offshore tomorrow at a price that leaves room for gas money or a cruiser that is a good candidate for a light restoration, this boat deserves a look.
