2005 Grady White 228

Post by tailwaters »

2005 Grady White 228 for sale. 22k firm.

Reason for selling: I just don't use it enough. I might have taken it out 5 or 6 times last year.

Background: Two weeks ago I loaned it to a buddy that had a couple friends come to town. His boat was in the shop having the bottom painted and power pole installed. Anyways the engine blew a rod and the mechanics I've spoken to said it wasn't worth rebuilding (2005 Yahama 250hp hpdi 700 hours). My plan was to replace the motor before selling it but a friend suggested I go ahead and put it on the market at a lower cost. FYI a new Yamaha 250hp 4 stroke runs $19,750 and the existing controls do not need to be replaced. Their is a 3 month wait on these engines. A new Suzuki 250hp 4 stroke with digital controls will cost 18k and their is no wait for these. I haven't looked at Etec's or merc to see what they run. You always have the option to buy a used motor for much less $$.

Other than the motor everything works. This boat has a small cabin and a bunch of fishing room in the back. It is the 228 which is the one with the enclosed transom with a bracket. underwater lights, nice sound system, freshwater shower / sink and much more. My old 250 would push the boat 46mph top end and cruse at 30mph turning 4000rpm's. On several occasions we would run 100 miles round trip.

I've spent a good amount of time looking for other Grady 228 of this year and their aren't any. After expanding my search nationally a couple did came up but none the same year as mine. Below are what those are going for.

-08 modle with 260 hours on a Yam 250 listed at 55k.
-2000 with a newer yam 250 Vmax for 39,990 (it didn't mention engine hours)
-2002 with a 200 4 stroke with 500 hours for 33k. (I wouldn't have anything less than a 225hp on this boat)
If you purchased one new it will set you back 118k

Their is some value in the old motor but I'm not sure how much. It has a power tec prop that retails for 7-$800. The lower unit is only a year old and so is the starter. Anyways if someone is interested in it before I get a new motor, let me know. Once the new motor is installed the cost will be 43k
