8 Ft. VHF antenna as FM antenna?

Post by KarstRanger »

Before I cut off this nice VHF connector and try it on an FM radio, can anybody offer an opinion if it will perform decently for FM? A friend gave me the VHF antenna and I would like to hook it up to the FM/CD on my river boat.

Should work. West Marine sells a covertor box so you can use your FM and VHF on the same antenna. Being you don't have a VHF just plug it in and see what happens, what can it hurt.

Thanks  I remember those converter boxes now that you remind me. I am not so good with a soldering iron :hammer: , so I was trying to avoid putting the FM type plug on it if someone told me it was not worth it. Now to the fun stuff of cutting a hole in the dashboard for mounting that FM radidio... hey, if we didn't have important boat projects like this to pursue, I'd have to do yardwork :smt011 or other "honey do" stuff !!
