Looking to Borrow a Garmin GPS Cable
Howdy Friends!
I hope to hang out here again 'fore too long, like I used to.
Today, I am working on getting my gear together.
Part of that is to get some stuff off of my GPS, but I cannot, for the life of me, find the cable that connects it to the PC. I know I've got it somewhere, so I hate to fork out the $25 for a new one. I want to use one now, though, to move some waypoints to a new unit.
So, I thought I'd ask if anyone has the right cable and if I can borrow it.
My GPS is a Garmin MAP 12. The unit has a four-pin connector for the cable, which then connects on a PC at some port but not a USB port.
Here is what it looks like, in the event you have a MAP 12 and have the cable in a drawer tangled with miles of other connector cables.
If you've got one of these guys, and will let me borrow it, please message me and I'll be lucky!
Thanks!
Bill

Thanks Tom! I can come get it, and would do so of course. Do you know what? One of the board's regulars messaged me and--as Granny used to say "I ain't believin' this"--he has one sent to him by Garmin by accident and they told him to KEEP it! He has no use for it! hahaha....
We will see if it is the right cable shortly, and if it is I will let you know as I do an Indian gratitude dance. If not, I will borrie yours!
Man! Maybe my fishin' will get lucky too!

If it don't workout with Tom or the other cable, I got one you can use also...
By the way, it hooks up to a com port, also known as a serial port.....
If you have a newer PC, it may not even have one on it....
But it sounds like you are fixed up.....

The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.

Y'all are mighty nice... and man am I lucky for that.
As it turns out, one of our rock-steady number, who didn't post in this thread but his screen name rhymes with "beer man," had a cord that he could give me, one he got for free but which he didn't need; and so he gave it to me!
So, tonight, it all worked! I moved my waypoints to my new machine.... wish there were some fish there.
So, soon, I might just try to down load some of the points that Tom has posted on here.
Happy Thanksgiving!
