Autoloader shotgun recommendation for wife?

Post by Big Bend Brian »

I’m looking for an autoloader shotgun that would be suitable for a 5’ 10” ~ 145 lb female (no shotgun experience).

I’d like to get my wife into recreational shotgun shooting. I have a clay pigeon thrower and I’ll start her out with that. To keep her interested I’d like to keep the kick low (hence I’m thinking a 20 gauge). Any recommendations? This gun will also be used for dove hunting.

I’m also hoping that this shotgun will also be suitable for my 11 yr old daughter who is into hunting and shooting but this might be asking too much. I would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.

Remington 1100 20 gauge. Got 2 and they are light and smooth...

There is also a youth version I believe. Just google "Remington 1100 LT 20ga. Youth"

Benelli M2 20 ga. They also make a feather weight version or something like that in a 20 GA. You might want to look at a Browning Upland Gold as well. I might be off on the name, but it's a small 20 designed for quail and upland hunting, but would be perfect for a woman or youth.

I would also recommend a Benelli in 20 gauge, but let her try a few and she will find one she is comfortable with.

The benelli sure is light. I like shooting mine over every other shotgun I own. You can't go wrong with a browning or Remington either.

What they said- Benelli

I have an old 20 Remington Model 12... looks like the Browning Auto 5
Shoots sweet. Light and little recoil.

Hmmm, a friend of mine once said the worst thing he ever did was give his wife a gun...as they wheeled him into the emergency room at TMH.

Hahahahahaha the first shot she squeezes off goes right into your back.

But seriously - gas operated 20ga is the ticket. I like Remington. Benelli if you have the cash
