Need spots at St. Marks

Post by setty7 »

Im new to the forum and to salt water fishing. We usually go out of Shields at St. Marks. We are in the process of getting a GPS to plot points but as of right now we dont have one. Can yall suggest where to go? We are going out saturday (1/21) around 11. We are looking for reds and trouts or just whatever bites. Its a 17 ft key west (flatts boat) so we can go but a few miles out. Thanks for yalls help!

Go to the store and get a GPS. You don't want to be caught out there in one of the bad fog banks we start getting this time of year.

If you are looking for Trout and Reds this time of year, you need to go up river from Shields, not towards the Bay :-D Ask the folks at Shields and they will tell ya "or just follow the fleet of boats up river" Good Luck

PS: Tom is right, you don't want to even be caught in the river without a GPS when the fog rolls in "sometimes you can barely see the front of the boat" :o

Wevans is right... Go up river until you see the power lines that cross over the water.
Anywhere from the Newport bridge to those powerlines will be good until it starts to warm up.

And GET A GPS- even a handheld!

Go with the 541, I wish I would have spent the extra $100. I have the 441 but wish I had the larger screen on the 541.

Yeah, they both have what you really need: color GPS/sounder combo with preloaded coastal charts and card slot.

Speaking of fog banks I was sitting off of Spring Warrior Creek yesterday and in a fog bank rolled. Strange feeling, glad I had 2 GPS units on the boat. Cleared out an hour or so later and never got to the point of not being able to navigate but it sure looked strange coming across the water!
