I don't know about that...I have put some in the cooler to use for bait. After a short time they turn into mush that looks like clear Jello.
Re: Eating Lady fish?
might try it if someone else cooked them but, they ain't coming in or around my boat! not worth the mess.

Re: Eating Lady fish?
There was a post a while back where someone saw ladyfish for sale at the fish market on cap circle. If I remember correctly it went for $2.99 per pound and the mullet was $2.49 per lb. Gary Droze also mentioned a while back that he has eaten ladyfish. I guess you won't know until you try ( I won't be the first in the pool). Remember snook(soapfish) were considered in edible until some hungry fella removed the skin(soap flavor) and realized they were delicious. Good luck bman, can't wait to hear how it goes.

I am psyched to replicate this. Failed in two previous ladyfish cooking attempts, but never tried the patty method.
Speaking of cooking bait, I once tried frying up some footlong wild shiners after netting more than I needed for bass.
They smelled delish and the flesh was delicate, akin to flounder...but riddled with needle-thin bones. Was like chomping into a pincushion. Oh well. As the late great philosopher Ronnie Van Zant said, "I tried everything in my life. Things I like, I try'em twice."
Will let y'all know if I end up eating ladyfish more than once.

Might do in a pinch, but I ain't in a pinch yet. Think i'll stick to salmon patties with tomatoes and rice on the side. Someone told me once that eel was good skinned cut in cubes and marinated in buttermilk for 24 hrs. then deep fried. Ain't gonna try that either.

Did they stop making Trout, Redfish, Flounder and Sausage?
Re: Eating Lady fish?
One has to be CRAZY to try to eat lady fish. If it is not filleted properly it is like eating a pin cushion patty mixed with fish. Tried one in the frying pan and it was my first, only and last one ever. They are not nicknamed the poor man's tarpon for nothing. (But they are fun to catch when noting else is chasing the hook )

I'm with ya. Gotta try it. Just to say I have done it. I am sure I have eaten worse.
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?
