stocking my tacklebox ????

Post by slayer »

trying to get things organized so I can get the family down to Keaton Beach & Spring Warrior a couple of times starting in early March. I have just finished installing my brand new Minn Kota Riptide ST 80 with i-pilot...I even added the Quick release bracket and the optional corded foot pedal (yes it hurt very much to spend that much on a trolling motor!!!!!!).....

But I started thinking about baits, and I wanted to ask a general question about yalls favorite baits (before I head to bass pro shop)

with my son and wife on board, we each always have a pole rigged with a cajun thunder with a 1/4oz jig-head under it with a new penny gulp or saltwater assassin on it.....but I wanted to add some hard baits to our inventory....

so, if possible, could you please list your favorite:

2 top-water baits and color pattern
a: bait 1 color
b: bait 2 color

2 sub-surface hard baits
a: bait 1 color
b bait 2 color

2 favorite soft plastics
a: bait 1 color
b: bait 2 color

any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

well... I would...But I live in Griffin, and when I go down to the gulf, I always stay at my mom's house in Hahira, and then I will drive down thru Quitman to Perry.....I hear a lot of great stuff about his store..and if it was on my way I would gladly do business with a site sponsor......but I'm more interested in "what" to get vs where to get it.....

Top water a) Zara Spook one knocker in bone color. b) Rapala Skitterwalk in Hot Pink or Green Mullet.
Subsurface a) Rapala Twitchin Rap in Hot Bone (chartreuse) b) Mirrolure Catch 2000 S20MR in the CHBL (blue back, chartreuse belly, silver holographic or the all time fave of red head white body.
Soft baits a) D.O.A. CAL 4" in Glow/ Gold Rush Belly or Chartreuse/Silver Glitter b) 3" Gulp Shrimp on a 1/8 red head jig.
You didn't ask, but don't forget to include a gold spoon for reds and a silver one for trout. I always use Aqua Dream spoons.

I'll start.

Chug bug - Mullet or sea trout color

Gulp - does not matter what shape. Pearl, nuclear chicken or blueback.

Invest in some good jig heads... Slayer or some other wide gap strong hook

That's all I need... Add in some circle hooks, wire leader, a few popping and rattle corks and I'm done.

Agreed that the catch 2000 or mirodine are both killer hard baits!

I second the slayer jig heads. They stay sharp a long time. I try to never go heavier than a one eigth ounce jig head Nd and really prefer the sixteenth. I really like the spooks but I find that I need to go with a smaller hook on it.

Get some DOA Cals 5.5 inch in glow, also add in a couple of Redfins - gold and chrome.

Do like I do....keep buying some of everything plus tackle bags to hold it all. Then give away what does not work for you. If only what works were made there would be a lot less made. Some lures are made to catch fish and some made to catch fishermen. I have some of both. It's a win win. I feel good everytime I buy a new lure and so does the manufacture plus it helps keep the economy alive.

I learned a long time ago that any good tradesman needs only a few tools. A bad one has more tools that he knows how to use.

Enjoy whatever you do. The secret is the "nut" using the tool not the tool itself.

You have been given some good advice and choices from the forum. Try them all!
