Depthfinder not working

Post by lizbeth »

I have a GARMIN GPSmap 498, the GPS works, but the depth finder does not work. Is there something that I can look for, to fix the problem ? transducer, wire …etc ???

If you get close you can hear the transducer clicking (well some people can depending on your hearing :D ) or find another transducer to see if swapping it out fixes the problem. They will sometimes lockup in shallow water, the lockup can usually be solved by turning the unit off and restarting. Mine just quit and had to be replaced.

Low voltage causes this problem.
Fully charged battery solved this issue for me.

Sometimes something as simple as unplugging the connector on the back of the machine and reconnecting it will fix the problem.

The 178C that I use in my aluminum boat has done that before. Tightening the connection at the unit brings it back. That boat is pretty bouncy and at times the whole unit shuts off. I've bought a new cable, but it hasn't yet annoyed me enough to make me install it.
