Good brightness level for boat lift light?

Post by pcbayou »

Can anyone recommend a just-right brightness level for a dawn-to-dusk security light on a boat lift? I've seen lumens levels ranging from 3,000 to 4,750. I want to discourage ne'er-do-wells, but I don't want to blind everyone on the bayou.

Not sure about boat lift lights but I have an 600 lumen spreader light on my boat that is extremely bright. Most of the ones I see on lift are rather dim and off-white. My guess it's because people don't want to attract bugs.

Thanks, tailwaters. We're looking at one with LED, which I understand is brighter and whiter than the older yellowish lights. Maybe it will attract a trout or two, or help us spot a flounder. :lick:

Where's your dock in relation to the boat ramp? I'll check it for flounder for ya. :-D

the color of the led lamps can go from 6500 kelvin down to 2700 kelvin
the 5000 is a daylight color the 2700 to 3500 is warm white
the 4100 is the color of Cool white like mst office light color
the 6500 is the brightest it is a true white color
the lumens determined the brightness
i used a lot of the 5000 led for outside lighting
hope this help a little
One thing about the speed of light it gets here too early in the morning

It does help, Blue spinner. Thank you. I've decided on one with 4750 lumens, which sounds about right. Better a little too bright than not quite bright enough. And it sounds like it's about the same brightness as neighbors have on their docks.
