Nearshore -March 10

Post by Srbenda »

Left the dock at 1000AM to higher than predicted winds, but out at the bird rack, the swells were about 1', so it was fine.
Ran out about 5 miles, and drifted live shrimp and cuts baits along the bottom.

We struggled at first keeping the bait near the bottom, because the drift was so quick, but ended up dialing it in, fairly well. Lots of short black sea bass caught, maybe 2 or 3 that were right at the 10" mark, but they all went back to grow. This sea bass was on a 3/0 hook, quite aggressive!

Caught a bait fish, and let him drift near the bottom as well, I think we finally lost him to a Goliath. Something stopped it cold, and it's unusual for a live bait to get stuck. Ended up breaking off the 65# braid to get loose.

My buddy picked up a flounder on some cut bait, and then some more short sea bass.

Water temps were 65f, and did see some bait on the way back in.

The swells seemed to pick up on the way back in, but it was a great day to be on the water.
