St. Marks 1/25

Post by ugadawg »

We decided to give St. Marks a try this weekend because the water finally looked cold enough for the fish to be up river. I like to check the water temp in Apalachicola on the noaa website, and once it gets below 60° we usually have good luck in the St. Marks. We started by the boat ramp and caught a couple ladyfish, and then moved down about a quarter mile or so and started catching trout. We would throw in the channel and work our way up from the deep water and get a bite almost every cast at a particular depth. We caught mostly 13-14.5 in trout steady for an hour or two, with a few keepers mixed in that were 15-16. We may have had 4-5 keepers when we decided to head down toward the mouth. We stopped at an oyster bar that has produced for me before (years ago) and started fishing as the tide was coming over the bar. Almost every cast produced a 17 in trout when our lures came over the bar. We caught 15-18 in fish steady for an hour or so until the tide topped out, and the bite turned off.

  Thanks, good report. Sounds like the fish are further downriver now. Maybe the cold weather will keep them there a while.

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the report. Any dominate colors or were they hitting anything when the tide started moving?

We caught them all on plugs. Mostly gold, but a few on other colors. I don't think we caught a single fish on gulps all day.
