Spring Warrior 10/16 “big surprise “

Post by flatsbroke22 »

Got off work early so decided on a quick trip to the coast. Turned out to be an epic day. Started in 4’ and picked up tree keeper trout pretty quick. Then the bite shut down. At dead high tide the water slicked off so we went in close to fish the bars. That’s when I hung what I thought was an over slot red. Fought hard and was stripping line. When it got close I then realized it’s a huge trout. Thought we were going to loose her when my partner went to net it and the net handle come off. So he two handed her with just the ring of the net. Very lucky to land her. My personal best by far, 30”. Took a few pics and let her swim to fight another day. Ended up with 8 trout and two reds for the trip home.

Congrats on a true "gator." Those big girls are a totally different animal. Glad you had a productive trip and applaud you for turning her loose.

Wow beautiful cow. Way to go putting her back in the herd. I have released big cow trout before but not that big. That is definitely a Gator. Sounds like the fish gods rewarded your effort with a nice catch.

Great catch - I've noticed sometimes the big trout are active when the tide stands. Seems they don't want to waste energy fighting the current.

A good surprise for sure, you should have entered it in the speckled Truth s dirty 30 contest, it's a pretty cool prize pack. Good to see that one swim off.

Never heard of the dirty 30 but I looked into it. Didn’t know that it was such an elite group. Not many 30”+ are caught each year and very few in this area. Looks like the Virginia area produce a lot of big trout.

Great report! I went out that way on Saturday and we had a few good bites but none stayed on the hook. I guess the high pressure Friday night changed the bite considerably.

I was in a 17' Sea Hunt with my friend. We didn't get there until after 1 and tried to fish the incoming tide near Rock Island.
