Oct 2023 New Smyrna Mosquito Lagoon Backcountry

Post by CaptMikeSavedow »

Autumn 2023 has arrived, cool fronts finally passing through Central Florida, some mornings in the 60’s, water temperatures starting to creep lower. Water levels have been very high as can be normal during the fall of the year, as the dry season begins, levels will begin to normalize and clarity starts to improve. All the different resident fish species are pretty happy the hot temperatures of summer is over and usually biting well. Backcountry fish like Seatrout, Black Drum, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, Mangrove Snapper, and also Redfish and Snook as well as the always possible surprise catch is possible. Cool mornings and a nice ocean breeze are the usual conditions for our autumn fishing. Long time clients from Tennessee out recently with Eva catching the best one, a nice Black Drum for photo and release …………..

For a change of pace, with long time client Gene from Ohio, hit hit Ponce Inlet looking for something bigger, drifting live baits inside the inlet within site of our famous Ponce deLeon Inlet Lighthouse, Gene caught, photo and released a few jumbo Jack Crevalle, each approaching 20 lbs………………..
