I figure because we had 12 pounds today with none over 20 and the fish were stacked up all day long.
BTW here is the weather right now where you planned to fish....

I have re-read these posts and I do agree with the decision to postpone the tournament based upon a Small Craft Advisory.
My ability to catch fish and handle Small Craft in hazardous conditions has nothing to do with other peoples abilities in the same conditions.
I should have been more considerate.

Saw this one coming this is one of the "redtrout" tournaments so it has the bad weather juju all over it. I'm totally ok with the postponement, like Jason said the fishing will be much better in early Oct.
On a side note the FCKA tournament was on a small craft advisory with 40knot winds and that was a kayak tournament. Needless to say it was riff but a good workout.

Brian, I'm sure I won't be the only one to ask about protocol for those who can't make Oct 1. I have a nonrefundable plane ticket/hotel/car rental to compete in a national championship running race in New York that weekend. Not nearly as fun as fishing, but runners can hold their own with anglers in the beer line. Any chance I can rollover the 85 bucks to your next gig? Sorry for the hassle; I know you have sunk costs.

From the Beachview.com feeds and Sailflow's modeling, it looks like NOAA blew the forecast--again. Makes you all warm and fuzzy knowing our government agency is always so "accurate," doesn't it? Could have been tugging on a 19.75-inch trout right now while JT was soaking his cut bait.

The tourney officials made the right call yesterday based on the official forecast and the information provided. It's just too bad NOAA isn't more reliable.

OK, so maybe they got it half right, or at least by noon, anyway. NOAA is still off more than they're on with the forecasts.

I took out my frustrations on a 5 mile cross-country race this morning. Headed out to St Marks right now to see what could have happened. NOT busting chops on the decision. I appreciate that most folks doing these tourneys are not able to paddle around the sheltered creeks...

Not busting Brian and Ashley's chops either. They made a good call based on the best information available and with the safety of the anglers in mind. Just wish NOAA could fine-tune their predictions and would actually open a window and look outside instead of just staring at a computer model.

And I took my frustrations out on yard work--mowed, trimmed, hedged, sprayed and pruned.

Hope you find a few Gary.

After my morning race, headed out to St. Marks Refuge to check a sheltered creek east of the lighthouse on incoming tide. Wouldn't you know: big school of reds surface blasted every freelined finger mullet I threw. Unofficial bathroom scale on the 26.75" I brought home said 7.1 lbs. Still not dissing Brian; it was the right decision.

Making redfish ceviche tonight. I have friends from South America who certify authenticity of the method. Contact me if you want the recipe.
