Winter Topwater Action

Post by captkeyser »

Fished Sunday in both the Wakulla and St. Marks Rivers. Had an excellent day ending up with 7 reds to 26"s and a two man limit of Trout all over 17"s. As the day came to close, we decided to document one of the last casts. You simply can't beat catching trout in 15ft of water on surface lures. I mean really, does it get any better??? :D

Hope you can view this. Never posted a link...

Cool.

You get extra points if it's caught on a custom rod though.

Awesome video! That's a good deal when you can train the trout to cooperate like that. Were you fishing way up the St Marks or did you find the best action on the side creeks?

All fish were caught in the St. Marks just below the Newport Bridge and above Shields. Plenty of fish to go around, plenty!!!

WHEN MY OLD FISHING PARTNER, CARL BROWN , WAS ALIVE. WE USE TO LAUNCH AT AUCILLA AND ANCHOR RIGHT AT THE RAMP. NEVER START THE ENGINE TIL IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE. WE USED TOP WATER FRESHWATER PLUGS, HULLA POPER, RED HEAD, WHITE BODY
AND THE TROUT WOULD TEAR IT UP. WE HAVE BEEN THERE WITH ICE FORMING ON OUR LINES AND LIMIT OUT ON TROUT GENERALLY IN ABOUT 2 HOURS. PEOPLE COULD NOT BELIEVE WE CAUGHT ALL THOSE TROUT ON TOP WATER BATES.

Good catch Keyser...I caught some nice trout the other day off the hill using a grub in the St. Marks.

Another cold front on the way, time to sharpen those hooks.

I have been giving two of your rods a tough work out in the Carrabelle river the last few days. Gotta love winter trout fishing.
