I Swear It Was Bigger: Fishing Report

Post by Scoop Sea »

A friend and I got an early start yesterday and headed out of Panacea to try and catch some grouper and kings. We did not have any luck with the kings, however we boated close to 30 grouper (mostly short gags). We did end up with 4 keepers with the larget being a little over 29 inches. That's the fish in the picture below. I swear it was that large, but the picture makes it look smaller. I guess I am a lot wider, i.e. fatter than I think, hence the fish looks smaller.

We used squid, spanish sardines, and Ly's. The sardines and Ly's seemed to be the ticket. We tried trolling and had no success. We did have to battle some sharks (a few really BIG Bulls and a rather large Nusre). We also had one fish cut in two by a Cuda. The weather was beautiful. The wind did pick up some around 10 am or so, but we were able to be back at the hill by 2:30 with four keeper gags and a fat doormat.

The only downer of the day was when I received a call advising that I have to head up to the Memphis area to do some post-flooding work this Sunday   . I guess my trip to SGI for Memorial Day is now on hold. Let's hope we can knock out our work and make it back in time, but I am not holding my breath.

I hope ya'll have a great weekend on the water.

Chris

Thanks Ashley, I agree, I was definitely lucky to make it out before I have to head out of town. I will definitely get up with you when I get back in town.

On a side note, I sent you a PM about a question I have pertaining to the NGFC.

Thanks,

Chris
