Stradic 4000FJ.
Any thoughts on this reel?

I have two 3000's and a 5000. They are great reels. The 5000 is a little heavy to continuously cast topwater or jigs. I use it mostly when throwing something under a popping cork. The 3000's have the muscle to handle any redfish or trout you're gonna hook and are light enough that you can throw them for hours without fatigue.

You have the new FJs'?

Haven't used the FJ but I'm waiting on a new Sustain FG, which also includes the X-Ship and other common features. Here are the specs on the Stradics:

The 4000 would be a little heavier for normal casting. Good for a bait rod or light trolling for Spanish, etc. I'm using all 3000 Stradics (FI) for my charters now, Steve. There's not a huge difference between the FJ and FI models, other than the classic white styling.

Biggest change from the "older" model (FI) is the color--white. Also, on the 3000 and smaller, the knob on the handle is smaller than the older paddle style knob. Nothing too new or earthshaking here.

Are they any good?

It looks like a heavier model of the Ci4 (2oz heavier in the 3000 size) It will probably be better than the Ci4 in salt. I am hoping they put more corrosion resistant bearings in it than they had in the Ci4. I have been replacing lots of Stradic bearings, especially in the Ci4. The good news is there are upgrade ceramic hybrid bearings available for all reels. (oops, got off topic a little)
The answer to your question JT is, yes, they are good reels. But like anything else, they are good if used in the proper application. If you overload them or match it with the wrong rod, you will probably not be happy.

Stadics are not strictly fresh water reels. They are approved for salt water use per Shimano.

you are wright the stradic is use in both .not saying not to use them in salt water ,and they are a good reel i like them smooth reel shimano has good stuff AND tough just a tip for you fising attic like me . jumptrout i like that
