St. Marks 8/28/13

Post by fishinfool »

I hit the lighthouse ramp at about 6:30. The weather was perfect. I got to my first spot at around 7:00, just as first light was peeking over the horizon. The floating grass was quite abundant dashing my top water hopes. I was able to get a couple of followers, but I suspect they were ladyfish. Spots 2,3, and 4 were strikeouts also. I went out to deep water at 10:30 hoping to get a couple of trout or sea bass, nothing. I moved in a little closer and picked up two small jacks. Then I moved in a little closer still, and picked up two cats. Not even were the pinfish hitting my gulp offering.
A very slow day and a nearly non existent bite, but it beat the snot out of working.
Water temp was 82 degrees most of the day. Made it up to 85 by 2:00. The wind started out at 5-7 from the east and wound up at 5-7 from the south. Even 4 miles out seas were less than a foot. Water clarity is very poor. If visibility is more than a foot I would be surprised.
Thank goodness for "next time".

You are a true. blue fisherman! We always look to next time. I enjoyed your detailed report even if the fish were not biting. Sometimes you just have to go!

We are at that stage now. Want to go BAD! I've set in the house for days looking at the rain. Couldn't fish or make hay.

Thanks for the good report.

Beats working is right. We're going to run out of Mashes Sands at daybreak in the morning and see what we can find.

As of yesterday evening (Sep 11), the reds and trout are FINALLY starting to greet me again in the Reuge creeks, after a pretty barren month. The canal water is now more salt than fresh. Could not say that just a week ago.
