getting the last few things ready for my trip to keaton this year and I look at the radar...DAMN !!! JUST DAMN!!!!!!!!

wonder what effect this is going to have on the trout....I know silt and water color was an issue north of Keaton, but north will probably be a total wash out now...reckon I will start well south of Keaton, somewhere near Piney Point/Dogsdshead area....sad part if it was just me I would probably try and reschedule, but this is my son's spring break and Keaton Beach is where he wants to go....

Did I mention the rain on the radar....DAMN...JUST DAMN!!!!!!

I have heard from a couple of local friends this week....I hate to tell you that the bite has slowed down. This rain is following the same dang pattern as last year.

Kinda figured it would...but it is what it is, and because of my work schedule, sun/mon/tues is my only window to get my son down there....so, grin and bear it I reckon

It will still be a fun trip. You guys will catch some fish and the weather should be very nice.

Maybe try the Steinhatchee Reef for Sheepshead, about 1/2 between SH and KB so you'll be near there anyway if you are running south from KB. They were still catching them last Saturday but turned off Sunday (I put the boat in the water)... the massive influx of rain may not be as big of a deal offshore as it is going to be on the flats.

I thought I saw a line of animals lining up next to my boat 2x2 this morning when I left home...

Go north and look for the line where dark water meets not so dark water. Fish the line.

After today, tonight and Saturday morning that line may be about Destin :D

Still better than work/school.

Happy Easter!

When y'all say, "go to where the water changes from dark to not so dark", are you going parallel to the shore in 3 to 5 foot of water or going out away from shore? Does the fresh water push the trout out or do they move along the shore ?

They are talking about running offshore and basically looking for where the stained water stops. Fish typically run to that line because the salt content is lower in the stained water because it is fresh runoff.

It was so bad with all the freshwater rain last year at Aucilla, there was no baitfish at all! The freshwater had driven them off out into deeper water. Everything was like chocolate milk all over; St. Mark's, Aucilla, ochlocknee, I finally found clear enough water to find the fish... Toward the end of summer.
