Minn Kota problem

Post by rocket »

My RT80 shaft just slides right thru the grip during use, requiring me to pull it up frequently when the prop hits bottom. To tighten the grip is only a plastic thumb turn on a bolt that can't get any tighter and the plastic thumb turn piece has stripped on the bolt.
Any suggestions or advice?

TM Service Center is the correct solution, but until you can get down there you can always buy a small u-bolt or a hose clamp and place it around the shaft at the desired height.

Hose clamp can be a temporary fix until you can get over to see Bill @ tm service center.

You can tell who all the "riggers" are on this forum by the replies to this thread. :-D
Our boats are held together with duct tape, wire, and of course hose clamps.

Got it, thanks. I've been using a spring loaded clamp to hold it in place but it needs to be fixed.

Take the plastic grip off or break it with pliers and replace it with a regular nut until you can get a new one.

Assuming you mean the depth collar the replacement kit is about $20 I'm sure the TM Service Center could get it quick if not in stock, pull the head, slide it on, replace the head and off you go. At least you won't get hung up while it is dragging low
