Evinrude E tech motors

Post by bbb »

Looking at a boat with a 2006 Evinrude E tech 115. Motor history shows no repairs needed in the last 10 years. Any reason for concern with these ETEcs?

Fantastic engine. My 115 runs my 20' aquasport at about 43mph with a full load in light chop.

Do some research on line. I see several positive responses on here, but I have several friends who have had nothing but trouble with them. Yale Ford who fishes the NFGFC tournaments is on his second or third powerhead, but his was a new one, not a 2006.

Looking at two different boats. one has an 05 Yamaha 150 and one has a 06 etec 115. Etec boat is about $1500 less

I just figured since it was an 06 its had time to work the kinks out if there was gonna be an issue.

Plenty of negative stuff online but every motor is that way really.

Sea Pro 19 bay

Thinking the 115 might be too small for water sports and 4/5 people in the boat.

My dad has a 150 E-tec and has gremlins in the motor. Some days it runs fine, some day it doesn't want to crank, and some times it only runs on a couple cylinders. Finding a shop that can work on an E-Tec and can get your boat back to you in less than 6 weeks is tough. He's taken the motor to several shops and no one can figure out what is wrong with it to fix it.

Has he taken it to Parkway yet?

Check that 150 for the balancer problem, see if it has been corrected.

Have had the same single Etec 90hp on my panga since I bought it a dozen years ago. Did have to replace the EMM (engine management module/brain/black box) on it this past year but hard to complain too much about it after 10+ years of it running pretty much like a top. Paired with the panga design it's sipped gas. Love the ability to go out and fish midshore (20' to 30' depths 10 to 15 miles offshore) only to fill up with 7 or 8 gallons of gas.

I had a 115 on a 18' Bay Craft and it would cut off when shifting into gear. They updated the computer and never had another problem.

Well the boat with the E-tec had a lot of bumps and bruises. Plus my local mechanic said he could not work on em.

The boat with the 150 Yamaha was in great shape for a 12 yr old boat. Hope to get an all clear call tomorrow after the marina checks it out.
