St Marks NWR - 22 Dec 2017

Started the holidays early and went to the refuge this afternoon - fished from 2:00 - 6:00. Had steady catching all afternoon at the passes to the west - ended up with 30 trout, plus some real dinks. Got some at 19" and 20", with most around 15" -16". Olive over chartreuse over white clouser got the most, but a black over purple or black over chartreuse EP minnow got the bigger ones and almost as many. Toward sunset the wind dropped so I tried a gartside gurgler and it was a swirl or fish on at almost every cast. One of the better days this year.

Nice, that warmer weather probably pushed them back out to the mouth it sounds like

Yes - looks like things cool down next week but today and tomorrow should be warm and they should still be there.

Great. Wading or boat?

Fished out of kayak - could have waded once I got there but the oysters are big and the bars uneven - plus the water is still a little chilly despite the warm up. I can't stand fly fishing out of a kayak and much prefer to just use it as transportation, but it worked out for the most part.

Sounds familiar. Rather be on foot, but use the yak to get around and find the fish. Get out if possible. Can sit only so long. Am thankful though I can still do it though.
