I agree that the bait is largely irrelevant, at least compared to finding willing fish. This time of year I'm throwing a lot of topwater baits. But I also throw a light jighead with any fluke or similar soft plastic and work it like a jerkbait. Gold spoons work great to cover a lot of water also. I also like suspending Mirrodines. I hardly use anything but these baits I've mentioned, they all work and I'm confident in them. Find rocks and oysters especially with deep cuts nearby and you'll find reds.
