East Flats 10-1-18

I took a well deserved and mandatory day off from work and decided to to use the time for some saltwater therapy.
I headed east from the lighthouse at dawn catching the outgoing tide. I investigated a few creek mouths without much to show for my efforts. I saw a lot of forage fish, from mud minnows to fingerling mullet up to 8"-10", but no takers on artificials from predators.
Finally found a 25 "Redfish that was willing along a grassline that gave a very spirited fight.

Later I fished a flat that has been fairly productive in recent history that produced a nice 19" and 21" trout. There were a few others from 14" to 16".

The wind was a little stronger than I expected, around 15mph, which made it a little uncomfortable to fish in my small boat. On the plus side, the water temp started at 83 and was 85 when I decided to head in around 12:00.

All in all it was a productive and enjoyable day on the water.

Well done!

So is the water finally clearing up?

The water clarity acts like it is going to clear up soon.Visibility was less than three feet Monday. There is still a fair amount of turbidity, but the tannin seems to be less. I think the shorter daylight will help a lot, as well as less rainfall recently. The salt content is up, which does not hurt.

You did good Jim. Next time you need a day off, come over to Carrabelle, it’s been a while since we fished.
