Spotted an eel while scalloping

This past week while scalloping a pristine patch of sea grass east I spotted an eel poking its head up out of a hole in the bottom. We were in six feet of water on the rising tide so I know the mask was magnifying him. I guess he was about six minutes niches sticking out of the hole. He looked like a morey but was fire orange mottled. Anyone know what it was or seen anything like it? Scallops were great!

I've seen the occasional eel while scalloping before. You usually only get a quick glimpse before they are gone.
