St. Marks 1/23

Made it down to the river yesterday, cold and breezy. Managed a few keepers up river but it was slow. Went down below the fort a bit and the shorts were stacked up below the ladyfish. Get it down below the ladyfish and there was a 11-14" trout every cast. Took my 4 year old out after we found t...

Re: What was I doing wrong on Sunday?

It really depends. If I am fishing shallow it seems that the rising tide is the best. Also, shallow is not a great place to be on a falling tide if you don't want to get stuck. If I am fishing out on the flats in 4-5+ it seems that the water just needs to be moving.

Re: What was I doing wrong on Sunday?

We went Sunday and fished the flats. We saw a lot of boats in the river on the way out, but the water temp on the flats was 68 F, which is way too warm for the fish to be in the river IMO. We ended up catching 3 slot reds, a few right under the slot, and some nice fat trout. We fished pretty shallow...

Re: Econfina River

In all seriousness... watch your tides, I don't recommend running it in less than a 0.75 tide if its your first time. Stay in the center of the river and you'll miss most of the rocks, don't take the shortcut. After you pass the tripod on the way out, veer to the left as it is a little bit deeper on...

It's only one rock....the problem is that it starts in St. Marks and ends at Spring Warrior!

Re: Econfina River Nav ?

I used to run the shortcut on higher tides. When I paddled it during the winter low tide, I decided to do the short cut to see what was in there there. Lets just say from what I saw in that shortcut....I don't care how high the tide is, I'm never again putting a boat with an outboard in that shortcu...

Re: Econfina River Nav ?

There are a variety of ways to run the Econfina without hitting stuff. The best way is to run it with an airboat.... But if you don't... You can go on google maps and see the channel. If you run it on a tide that is greater than 1.0, you are usually good as long as you stay in the center of the rive...

Re: PAUL BROWN LURES BY MIRROWLURE

I hear a lot of good things about the Paul Brown Original in a Black, Gold, and Orange color scheme. Seems to work real well when the water is cooler. I have never used one on account of hardly anywhere sells the things. The only place that I have seen them around here is in Wilson's in Perry. (Gran...

Re: Flyfishing - Locally

My inlaws live in Helen and I have recently started gathering equipment to fly fish up there when ever we visit. I was able to catch 5 rainbows one day last week (wild ones too!). I want to start trying for trout down here, and I've gotten a few clousers to throw at them. My rod is only a 5 wt, (I g...

Re: Florida Marine Tracks around St Marks

My dad just got it. We haven't fished St. Marks with it yet, but we have fished Keaton and Econfina with it. It seems to be pretty accurate with the rocks, and there were plenty of tracks to run in both areas.

Remove the screws, fill all the holes with epoxy and let it dry. Then redrill pilot holes and sink the screws

Re: Which maps are best

My dad just upgraded to Florida Marine Tracks and it seems to be pretty precise. Has a bunch of rocks marked that I didn't know about. We haven't taken it into the rock garden or the east river yet, but we are planning to soon to see just how good it is.

Re: Local Nautical School or Training?

You can hire a guide to go on your boat and teach you to run the area you want to fish. There are no formal schools to teach you the area that I am aware of.
