Humpback Whale in Florida Gulf
The Orca story reminded me of something that happened last summer. I took a trip to fish the Pier at Okaloosa Island last summer. The fishing was terrible. However, as we were standing on the pier one morning a school bus motored under the pier just on the south side of the sand bar. Then it rolled ...

bubble rig
At the pier they were worked in a series of pops, faster than with a cajun thunder for trout. Filled about 1/2 with water it made a very convincing spanish hitting on top imitation.

Oakaloosa Island Pier
I grew up fishing on this pier and my boys have been after me to take them for the last couple years, so we went this weekend. Things have changed in some interesting ways. First, I saw a school of breeder size redfish in the surf which you never saw when I fished there in the late 70s and 80s. Peop...

The Way East
There is an interesting post with GPS data and satellite images of the rocks. I'll post a link in a minute.

St. Marks 7/6
Left Shields at 7:15 with the 11 year old. Started out on the east flats pretty close to shore. Good trout bite on the high tide. The boy got his biggest trout to date - 23 inches -- and no help from dad except with the net (and I tried to lose it for him on the first attempt). Kept that and one oth...

Sharp Knife
Had some success on opening day which was our first ever attempt. We had a lot of closed tight scallops. A sharp paring knife made it pretty easy to break the seal and they popped right open. Five gallons with just my 11 year old and me cleaning was a bit daunting but not bad once we got the hang of...

Panacea Grouper Trip 10/22
Fished with Captain Clay Oaks on a charter. Left the dock at 7, back at the dock by 2. 5 in the party caught 20 gag and 5 red (that's a limit). Hard to beat it. Never deeper than 60 feet.

thanks for the advice
I've heard something like that before, but that's the most specific instructions on it I've seen. I'll definitely try it. Thanks.

St. Marks Monday, 10/2
Lucked out and got to fish monday. The only place to buy live shrimp on Monday in St. Marks is the Shell Island Fish Camp. Bought the shrimp, on the water about 8:00. First stop west flats out front of (almost in) Big Pass caught a legal trout. Lost two other big trout and caught quite a few shorts....
