Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

Well, I updated the thread last Friday only to see it get erased by the interwebs. Much has been done to the gheenoe since the last update. Skip removed the rub rails off the gheenoe and sanded, primed, and painted the outside. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w14/tcaseycook/2012-08-09_17-35-40_60...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

I've been traveling for work lately and took the week of July 4th off to chase tarpon so haven't made much progress on the gheenoe. I was able to get a little work done yesterday. We decided on the low deck for the front so we cut down the front seat to our desired height. Skip had a new saw he want...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

We did a lot more cutting and grinding tonight. Cut open the front seat and removed more waterlogged foam. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w14/tcaseycook/photo1-7.jpg The openings were cut as close to straight as I could get them with a sawzall, but I'll go back and sand them down to straighten t...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

We were able to get a little bit more done last night on the Gheenoe. After looking at some tricked-out gheenoes, we decided to cut a segment out of the rear bench seat and remove all of the foam. We plan to deck this back portion in and it will be nice to have a storage area in the back for life ja...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

What are you going to make the decks out of? Are you just using plywood? I thought about trying to use a composite that is lighter, but the price difference just doesn't justify the weight difference. I ran mine yesterday with my 10 horse and I need some extra weight in the front anyways. We plan t...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

Well, last night I had quite the crew show up to help with the project. DCruz, SnatchNReel, and BlackPearl all came ready to work...well, except for SNR who was there to drink beer and "supervise". We got quite a bit done as we removed the seats, seat mounts, and most of the hardware on th...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

I've got a 15 footer that is always a work in progress. I love it except any chop action winds up in the boat and the wife isn't too sure about the bilge pump connected to a battery when she's got her feet in the water. I tell her she will not get shocked and if we do fill up with water we won't si...

Re: 13' Gheenoe Rebuild

nice Casey. Do you have a little outboard for her? Yep, have a 6HP Suzuki 4-stroke. I'm contemplating buying a mini-jacker jack plate for the back, but don't know if I need one. Here's a pic with the motor mounted...do any of you boat geniuses out there think there would be any benefit to raising t...

13' Gheenoe Rebuild

I've always enjoyed reading boat rebuild threads so I wanted to start one for my latest project. I was given an early 90's 13' gheenoe (with trailer) seven or eight years ago. Skip and I added a couple boat seats to it and that was about the only modification we've made. The boat was perfect for bas...

Re: Hands Helping Anglers and fishing report

Thanks to everyone for making this the best HHA event yet! We took 60 anglers and their helpers fishing and had over 30 boat captains for the event. While the weather wasn't the best, I've heard from several folks that they had an awesome time. Special thanks to the BBF volunteers - tallykenj, salty...

Re: Hands Helping Anglers -June 23rd- Volunteer Captains Nee

Hey guys, Thanks for all the responses. Just a quick update, we had close to 60 anglers sign up for the fishing event. The great news is that we've got over thirty boat captains signed up to participate and we've been able to place all of the anglers who signed up to fish. We are looking for a few b...

Hands Helping Anglers -June 23rd- Volunteer Captains Needed!

Hey guys, Every year the Florida Disabled Outdoors Association puts on an event called Hands Helping Anglers. The goal of the event is to take handicapped folks for a day of fishing. Some are physically handicapped (some associated with Wounded Warriors) and others are mentally handicapped. This yea...

Re: Casey caught one

Thanks guys. She was 27.5" and weighed 5lbs 8 oz. The best part was that Pat was fighting the winning redfish when she blew up on my plug. Pat fought the red while netting my trout one handed and was then able to successfully land his fish. Nothing like 11+ lbs of fish in two casts. Ended up wi...
