I've seen a large school of jacks in St. Andrews Bay recently. (clear water (5' depth) and could see them quite well. Hooked one on a Chug Bug, and got spooled before I knew it.

I would like to see a photo of the kind of spinner bait that Chalk uses on trout, I think I'd like to try that too, and just haven't thought to do it. They'll hit a spoon so they should hit a spinner too. But then what would I do with hundreds of dollars worth of DOA's if I get "hooked" on...

Cat Point Bar just to the east of the north end of the SGI Bridge holds a few trout and reds sometimes.

Glad to see that report Tom. Just west of PSJ (Panama City area) the grass is also slow to come back this year. (Cooler than normal winter/spring)?

I was thinking about heading to SJ Bay next weekend but may hold off another couple weeks now.

Do any of you use the Capt. Mike's spoons? Some of us have good luck using them in the Panama City-St. Joe area. I like the weedless (single hook) willow spoon. In shallow water I'll start retrieving it as soon as it hits the water. I once thought you could reel it too fast but not so. (The web site...

Did you run into ALMAR and Carl out there? Sounds like you had a blast on the topwater. That's exciting fishing when they splode up on the topwater plugs.

I do a little fly fishing for freshwater fish (bream/bass) and speckled trout. To keep from working myself too much, I first locate trout with DOA's, or topwaters, then when I find 'em ganged up I'll offer them a Bonito Buster, or a Clouser minnow (or a Deceiver) in a pink color. I fish anywhere fro...

The grass is behind this year in the bays in the Panama City area also. We attribute it to a cooler winter and spring. (But we ain't scientists) The catch is also down and the size of the fish also seems to be smaller than in the past couple of years.

John,

That cracks me up when Almar starts talking to the trout. He made a believer out of me though over at Econfini last year. Talked some into jumping on his homemade topwaters when they'd hit nothing else. Yep, they are a good crew to fish with. A lot of wisdom there.

Ken,

Steve and Joe's boat is a mirror copy of mine, purchased at the same place. They told the dealer they wanted one exactly like mine right down to the electronics.

Ken, I think Steve caught that cobia on 10# test line.

Cranfield, with our combined ages rounding out at around 180+, I don't think fashion was much on anyone's mind. I think our fashion motto could have been "wear what works." Steve tried to outfit Earl in some "Frog Togs" but tough ole Earl wouldn't have any of it. He continued wea...

Old Salts at St Marks LightHouse 04/30/04

Bad weather not withstanding, I had a great day on the water down at St. Marks Friday with "Old Men of the Sea" ALMAR and his old buddy Carl. Our launch from the Lighthouse pool was delayed a bit by a little drizzle but once it passed we were able to get out on the water and start lifting ...
