Re: gulp $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I'll take the 2-3 yrs for Gulp to decompose vs. hundreds of years, or more, for plastic lures. Bear in mind that there are approximately 60 million recreational anglers in the U.S( one can only guess how many use plastic baits), but that's likely a boatload of plastic hitting our waters Here is the ...

Re: gulp $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Concerning the pros/cons of the disparate soft baits, Gulp is biodegradable, as are Fishbites, whereas Z-man is not. They claim their baits float, do not accumulate on the bottom, so easier to find and dispose. Regardless, more plastic in the ocean, and likely more fish dying when they swallow a pie...

Re: Oil wells near the Dead Lakes, Apalachicola/Chipola Rive
With the advent of fracking, the US is awash in oil. This proposed drilling- which could potentially destroy the entire watershed- is unmitigated greed. Moreover, no drills or rigs are leak-proof, despite claims by the industry. The current EPA is a defanged, impotent agency, enfeebled by the politi...

Re: Soft plastics?
According to their website description, Zman plastics are indeed non-toxic, float to the top to facilitate retrieval, but no affirmation that they are biodegradable (unlike Gulp). Actually all salt water plastics are somewhat” biodegradable”, but many take decades or hundreds of years. Insofar as pl...

grass
Need some advice: although I’ve been fishing these panhandle waters (SGI, Port St J, Cape San Blas) for >20yrs, how do you deal with copious floating grass, for example, after a major storm? Weed-less hooks often do not work, popping corks with bait are out of the question, even top lures are a no-g...

Re: Whats happened to trout fishing?
If you want to select a culpable fish that may be devouring fry, here it is: catfish. Over the past 20yrs, I'm convinced that these waters are awash in cats. Around St George, for example, a pinfish under a cork likely hooks a cat, not a game fish. The decline in trout stocks is probably multifactor...

Re: St. George Island bridge 4/9/16 report
I’m unconvinced that the abundance of cats is not harmful to the Gulf fishery- anecdotally, over the past >20yrs, I believe that their population throughout the Fl panhandle has exploded. Besides plant and other organic detritus, they do consume bony fish, even the juveniles. Could this be just anot...

Re: Trout fishing this year
Indeed, simply too many taken for dinner. However, after fishing this area for almost 20yrs- certainly small potatoes compared to many on this forum- I conjecture another possibility: too many catfish (which will consume fry). Their numbers and prevalence appear to be increasing steadily. No facts, ...

Re: Shark Encounter
I copied this from a website( but I cannot validate or provide sources) : "Coincidentally it is Shark Week this week on Discovery Channel. Sharks feed more often at dusk, dawn and at night. There have been two fatal attacks and one arm loss in the last ten years from Pensacola to Panama City Be...
sailcats
Admittedly not an expert as many on this forum, but I have fished this area( cape San Blas to Bald Point) about 2-3x each year for nearly 20yrs. Usually we fish the bays from yak or a dock. Are others noticing a sizable increase in the number of sailcats? Their population appears to be exploding and...
