Re: End of April Report

With all the reports of the bite being active as well as some time spent last weekend, Mom has been wanting to try her luck. I will be taking her out this Saturday. For her sake I certainly hope she catches a few. She really enjoys getting out on the water and putting a bend in the rod.

Re: Request VHF marine radio recommendation

Either way is ok. I would probably just replace that 30A with a 15A

Re: Request VHF marine radio recommendation

30 amp might be a little high for that unit. By the time the 30a blows, the overcurrent can do some damage. It probably has a 10A inline fuse. I would lean more towards a 15A for circuit protection. It would be easy to replace the 30 with a 15.

Re: Request VHF marine radio recommendation

You might consider wiring it directly to the house battery. Of course you will want a fuse or circuit breaker for circuit protection. The radio's on/off switch should suffice.

Re: Request VHF marine radio recommendation

Those 5 watt units don't transmit more than about 5 miles with a stubby antenna. A good antenna that is higher (about 6ft.) will get out further, but not much. The 25 watt units with a good and taller antenna will transmit much further.
You might look into an EPIRB or PLB (GPS locator transmitter ...

With eleven people, you might consider a head boat.

Re: Towing with Ford Bronco Sport

You might be over weight by 1,000 or more pounds by the time you add fuel, gear, fishing stuff...etc.
I think you might want to upsize your choice of tow vehicle.

Re: Local reports????

It is a shame some folks are not able to use social media platforms constructively. That being said, it seems there are some quality catches being made in our area. I hope some folks chime in on their successes with where(general areas) and how it was done. As always, I hope some specific ...

Love the photos as usual. I'm glad you got on some fish, even though it wasn't the numbers what you had hoped for.
Keep at it and keep us posted. With any luck you will find another of those nearly extinct Gag Grouper.
