Neighborhood piggy
I enjoy riding my mountain bike around my neighborhood in the early morning riding with a light. Coming back one morning last week right at dawn I noticed some hogs had just started working an area in the neighborhood. At 6:25 am I watched as 8 hogs were tilling the ground. They were too nervous to ...

Plan B: Short Cedar Key grouper trip: 11/13
I left Ponte Vedra at 5:30 am to trailer Plan B [/b] back to Cedar Key where it’s normally kept. A front was supposed to push through Cedar Key later in the day so I was hoping that I’d get in a short pre-front grouper trip. The plan was to do a quick shallow water grouper troll so I could get to Ga...

Green Cove Springs shrimping with (a) Pork Butt…… 10/9 2014
Just a fun post……not a serious skrimp trip or report….. Plan A : stay at the house like most afternoon/evenings and just have dinner followed by the kids doing homework….. OR…. Plan B : go skrimping after skool…… Plan B sounded the most fun so….. with the wifer heading to a conference I thought the ...

Green Cove Springs Shrimp: 9-13 2014
Had a fun short trip on a buddy’s boat yesterday. We shrimped Saturday afternoon south of the Hwy 16 bridge on the east side for 1 hour & 45 minutes starting at 4 pm with an incoming tide (high tide = 5:47 pm). One 8 foot and one 6 foot shrimping net. Got 3+ gallons of solid mediums before the t...

Keaton Beach Scalloping: 9-12 2014 U/W photos
Friday the kids were off of school so we trailered Plan B and headed over to Keaton Beach for our last scallop trip of the year. http://briankiel.smugmug.com/Animals/Scallops/i-BgH2xjH/0/L/P1010006-L.jpg The wifer, daughter & son (trouble makers….) Had to hunt hard to find the scallops and we co...

St Augustine lobsters: Saturday 8-30 2014
Just a FUN quick post… Today we headed offshore approximately 42 miles out of St Augy looking for lobsters. This all started about 2 weeks ago when I was fortunate enough to be invited to dive aboard Dr. Jimmy Glenos’s sweet 48 foot Buddy Davis named Major Adjustment . Aboard were good friends Dr. W...

Re: Gator Hunting with the kids: Photo Heavy. Aug 15 – 17, 2
Thanks for the nice comments. I gotta know, how do you release a gator that has been hooked? I can't imagine they are all that willing to lay still and not rip your arm off while you pull the hook(s). It’s simple actually; when you decide to release the gator you release tension on the line and the ...

Just curious how much meat those guys yield and what is done with the hides. I don't know squat about hunting gators. Picked up the meat from the processor yesterday. It came to 120 lbs vacuum sealed in smaller packages fit into 5 lb boxes (same boxes as 5 lb boxes of bait). Traded the hide of one ...

Plan B: Keaton Beach scalloping: Sat 8/23
No weekend soccer practices/games or any Boy Scouts just yet so we took the time for a quick scallop outing before time is in short supply. Did a quick trip to Keaton on Saturday to check out the scallops - just my daughter and one of her girlfriends (wife was on call and my son was fishing a local ...

:-D Your family has awesome adventures. :-D How deep are the lobsters? Post up pics of the canadian adventure. Thanks for the nice comments! Since we snorkel I keep the depth no deeper than 11 feet. Any deeper and I hear about if from the snorkelers (too funny). Kids from 13 years of age to uncles ...

Sport Lobster Key Largo (late report….): 7/28 – 9/2
Late report ………..it’s been back-to-back late summer trips with the kids with only hours between trips to write up reports. I’m catching back up now….. Unfortunately there are no underwater action photos this time as my 2 year old U/W camera flooded and I had to use the wifer’s land camera. This is o...

Gator Hunting with the kids: Photo Heavy. Aug 15 – 17, 2014
I was drawn for the first phase of gator season for the Upper St. Johns River Basin which is around Melbourne and my kids were stoked as they were going for their first gator! “ Girls First ”…… so my 13 year old daughter Kaitlyn would be first on the harpoon followed by my 15 year old son Casey for ...
