Cedar Key offshore. Tuesday, Nov 14 06. Grouper & king Taking advantage of the incoming cold front Bernie Fowler & I slipped out to Cedar Key. The goal of this trip was to look for new grouper spots in less than 40 feet. The motivation behind this is to develop a set of closer in grouper num...

Now that’s an awesome fishing trip! Good for Lindsay on her first grouper rally and good for you for taking her. My hat is off to you. I enjoyed reading about your day.

I’m stoked about taking my 7 year old boy out next week for his first grouper.

Very nice. If it weren’t for the spotted seatrout you’d think that picture was taken in Minnesota.

Looks like a FINE day. Great pictures too.

Re: WANTED: .223 Savage

Dolphinatic, just as another idea…….. I’ve thought about the subject of a first caliber and what rifle model subject extensively (I tend to over research such things). Last week I finally decided and bought 7 yr old Casey a NEF Youth model 243 (w/scope). I first borrowed one and Casey shot it ...

Ummmmmm……. Nothing like grunts, grits, and cheeks for breakfast (and the way to start a day of school). I forgot to add that it was four days pre-full moon. Of the five grouper I cleaned four had full stomachs containing both small & large sized herrings, while the fifth was empty. What I fo...

Cedar Key offshore. Grouper N’ Kings. Wed, Nov 1 06

A friend & I departed the Cedar Key dock at 7 a.m. with the goals of catching a few grouper and secondarily developing some Cedar Key grouper numbers. For the last five years I’ve grouper fished out of Steinhatchee but now have decided to do most of my fishing in Cedar Key. Before heading out ...

You could learn a lot by buying a Woods n’ Water magazine (monthly mullet wrapper) and reading about your local water body that you fish. Here’s a link to see what the current issue looks like: http://www.woodsnwater.net/ I think it’s a pretty good place to start learning local waters. Good lu...

Enjoying a little night action……..Frogging: Tuesday, 10-4 06

Went out with a duck hunting buddy last night for a little fun and we had a nice 4 hour evening hunt. Despite it being 2 days pre-full moon with an 85% moon illumination we had a nice evening. The sky was clear with a light breeze and the mosquitoes weren’t bad at all. The usual loud frog chorus w...

Frog Gigging with the kids. Saturday 9-23 06

My friend Eric and I have wanted to take the kids frog gigging for quite awhile so on Saturday evening we loaded up Casey (7), Mathew (10), and Nicholas (12) for their first frog gigging trip (Kaitlyn was with mom at the Gator game). The platform was Eric’s 18-foot Go Devil rig and the lake of cho...

Cedar Key inshore. Thursday, 09-14 06 (cobia)

After dropping off both kids at school I met up with a person I’d never met before to do a little red fishing off Cedar Key. Interestingly, we met on the Florida Sportsman Big Bend forum ( E-Gator ) and we started trading e-mails about USCG Captain licensing and sending each other fishing reports....
