I second Bayou Joe's in Massilina bayou for lunch if you don't mind running that far from the bridge. Highly recommend the draft beer, fish tacos or trash burger. Smack bayou is within a rock's throw from there and on high tides I've done well on the trout in there in the past.
There's a great ...

Re: SKEG Repair
I’ve had my skeg repaired 4 times. Probably broke at the same place (the weld) each time.
A skeg guard is an lazy fix. Traps saltwater, it’s ugly and it probably weakens the skeg., really no advantage at all except for ease…. For the record: All untrue. Do some more "research" :-D

Re: SKEG Repair
Salty and I had this discussion a long time ago and I think we agreed to disagree. Just a matter of preference imo. I don't believe the two small holes required to mount a skeg guard in the upper and thickest part of a skeg weaken the skeg any more than a weld. The way I see it, there's ...

Re: SKEG Repair
Personally, I'd keep the Skeg Guard. Instead of a shiny chrome look, a welded repair will make it look more like the original but if and when you hit something again, it will probably break at the weld where a Skeg Guard is designed to break off at the bolts holding it on to the lower unit and if a ...

Re: Excellent Service
Good to know info. I haven't had any problems with my auto deploy and stow (knock on wood) but since it's out of warranty it's good to know someone can fix it if I do. The local Minn Kota repair shop doesn't have the best reputation. I googled TM Trolling Motor Repair for their #.

Re: MK Ulterra reliability
I've had the first edition Ulterra and the 2nd edition (new and improved model). There were several improvements on the newer models. The only issue I ever had was with the trim and that was due to a loose drive belt. Because it was loose, the teeth wore off the drive belt and it made an awful noise ...

I'll second The No Name Pub! It's a must imo. Everything there is good and you'll like the wall paper.
Pigeon Key is interesting too.

Re: keys trip help
Marathon's my home town. I haven't been back in a few years but the Turtle Hospital has always been the biggest attraction in Marathon. If you're willing to do a party boat trip, I'd suggest The Marathon Lady. (docks next to the Vaca Cut bridge in Marathon Shores) She's been there forever and does ...

Re: the older I get
Well said spinner. I hope the knee heals quickly and you are fishing again soon but don't rush it. I've had a new right knee every year for the past three years and it's better but still not right and each time it took almost a full year to heal.

Re: Stripers
I can't help at either of those locations but I do target stripes and hybrids at the next two dams upstream of Seminole. (Walter F. George and George W. Andrews), and my technique is to fish the currents, eddys and any points near the dam or creek mouths and "match the hatch" for bait. Live shad is ...
