Re: Duck Season
MD, I'll also be down on there the weekend of the 18-19th. Don't forget the DEET...forgot it one morning last year down there and thought I was going to walk out with Malaria.

Re: Duck Season
I'll miss opening weekend, but that's likely the only weekend I'll miss. I plan to hunt this area hard as usual and have a bonus hunt at MINWR in late December and another in the glades in January. With some water in the local lakes this year, I'm hopeful that folks will have enough sense to spread ...

Re: Deep hooked fish can be released.
I wasn't trying to advocate breaking the law. I've watched plenty of fish float away belly up because they were either too small or out of season. It sucks, but I'm not willing to risk running into an FWC officer that's having a bad day and getting an expensive fine. If a fish is within the slot lim...

And if the fish released with a hook in his gills/gut doesn't survive, that fish is 100% wasted.

Re: where to catch bowfin (mudfish)
I've sight-fished for them on the Wacissa when nothing else was biting. The only thing they seem to love more than coating everyting in black slime is tearing up a $5 hildebrant spin daddy.

Re: Spanish
There's no better mackerel lure, IMO, than a silver clark spoon. As others have said, look for birds feeding and bait busting on the surface...a lot of times you can even see mackerel jumping in the distance before you see baitfish. If you find them this way, all you need is a spoon and leader. I pr...

Re: Killing Tarpon...
 IMO, spearing a tarpon for the "fun" of it is no different than shooting a deer and leaving it in the woods to rot. I also have a big problem with this: Cash Prizes for Tarpon...$100 for the largest, $100 for the smallest, and $300 for a "spawning capable" female. I c...
