Re: PAUL BROWN LURES BY MIRROWLURE
Paul Brown lures are great cold-weather baits, but to reiterate what doomtrpr_z71 already mentioned, at $9-$20/pop, unless you just enjoy burning money, I wouldn't throw one anywhere a spanish/bluefish might be encountered. If you don't already carry super glue with you when you're fishing, I'd ...

Re: Jon boat or Gheenoe for flats
Aluminum is more abrasion resistant, but fiberglass is stronger/has better impact resistance per weight. That being said, if you plan to brush up against a lot of oysters, and that's the intended application you're purchasing your boat for, an aluminum boat would probably be my choice. The bottom of ...

Re: Jon boat or Gheenoe for flats
Gheenoe-wise, the LT25 would be my first pick, but I wouldn't rule out a Classic. The LT25 is slightly larger and takes chop better, but both boats are extremely stable. That being said, if you plan to run the main river [boat traffic], none of the Gheenoes have much in the way of freeboard. If you ...

00 Clark spoons with light wire or #40 mono leaders should do the trick.

Re: Pinfish trap
boon123,
If you figure that out, let me know. I've not had a trap stolen yet, but I've had bait stolen numerous times. The best way I know of is to throw them with a small (or no) float.

Re: Bait in the Carrabelle River
Menhaden, pogy, bunker, LY...all different names for the same fish, in our case the gulf menhaden. For the record, I think an alewife is a different type of baitfish.

Re: Tiger shark at Ecofina
We've seen them everywhere from 80 miles out to 800yds from the Lanark channel markers (right in the middle of the scalloping grounds many frequent). The most aggressive shark I've encountered was a 10ish' tiger last summer that wanted the contents of my chum churn bad enough to attack 3 outboards ...

Re: Quail Hunting
Quail hunting on public land is hard enough with a good dog. Quail hunting on public land without a dog is going to be near impossible. If it's something you really want to take up, I would keep my eyes peeled for a trained bird dog between now and next year...an older dog that's slowed down and a ...

Congrats! After wanting to get into it for years, I finally picked up a bow this year. The addiction has already set in and I haven't even killed a deer yet.

Re: Question about shooting guns from boats
Legal to carry but not discharge except during legal hunting season or self defense. State waters are considered public places. There are also careless or wreck less laws that discharging a firearm on open water would fall under also.

Re: Gheenoe question for a friend..
I pulled some specs to refresh my memory: the Classic has a 55" beam, whereas the LT 25 has a beam of 56". If the LT 25 is the boat he's considering, I think there are a few guys on the board that own(ed) one, so hopefully they'll chime in...it's a slightly larger boat, but that's about all I know ...

Re: Gheenoe question for a friend..
A friend of mine is looking into purchasing a gheenoe for inshore fishing in the rivers and estuaries and would like to take it out to the flats on calm days. The model he is looking at is 56" wide. I've never been in one, so I'm hoping someone can offer up some thoughts on how they do when the ...

NOAA does it again...Red Snapper
For those not yet aware...earlier today, NOAA announced the dates for the 2017 red snapper season in federal waters. For the private, recreational fisherman, this year's season will be limited to three ( 3 ) days, running June 1-4.

Re: Finding Live Bait
Alligator Harbor gets loaded with LY's (the later in the summer, the bigger they'll be), any grass in the area will hold pinfish this time of year, and pilchards will be on most of the flats in 2-4'...just watch for birds and bait flashing, then throw on them or drop anchor and chum.
