if you get the heavy pitting and corrosion then your anode is doing the job eather replace or you may need to add to it make sure you don't paint them.......you will will have more than just the lower unit pitting and corroding.......just my 2 cents and from what i bin told and taught....

I woun't worry about the skag to much on the painting......but if the lower unit itself needs to be painted I would do that for sure........

my uncle just bought a new trailer for his 19 foot sea pro he went with two axle trailer.........the boat fits better and is better at driving the boat on to it.......this trailer is a hole lot better than the single axle thats for sure.......
