Re: Piney Island question

Thanks for the tip, Steve. Hoping to try Bottoms Road soon. Rather than my wife's nice Subaru, I'll drive my '96 Escort wagon with deer dents, sagging headliner, and coackroach infestation. I usually park it with the windows down and come back to find donations on the dashboard.

Re: Piney Island question

I was wondering about Skipper Bay Road. Figured if the road was too rough I'd break out the mountain bike for the final leg to water. Will do a test drive down there this weekend and report findings.

Piney Island question

I have no experience wade/kayak fishing Dickerson Bay to Oyster Bay, but plan to try it next month, when the water warms a bit. Satellite maps show some potential west of Piney Island (Bottoms Road vicinity). Anybody have advice or experience in this area? I've never even driven Bottoms Road; assumi...

Steve, I'm in...and I'm bringing my cast net to the meeting tomorrow, so you can get a pre-contest look at it.

Re: Cast Net Contest

I too was surprised at the seemingly inexplicable list of cast net-legal species. I have a friend who regularly nets sheepies off his dock. Looked it up to make sure he was above the law. Indeed he was.

Still, I would carefully check the FWC list, AND be sure there are not regional restrictions!

Re: Cast Net Contest

You are spot on about legality, Steve. Probably the reason I discovered the net was because a poacher hid it (not very well). It's 15 feet from horn to lead line without modification. I gathered up the first foot from the horn with zip-ties to convert it to a legal 14, but will likely take the zip-t...

Cast Net Contest

I failed in my attempt to sell a 14+ foot cast net I found in the swamps while wade fishing, so now I'm going to award it to the person who can best get it to open. Here's the contest details: When: NFGFC February Tourney weigh-in, February 4, 4:00pm. Where: St Marks Outfitters Entry fee: 5 bucks ca...

Re: NFGFC Feb 4th Tournament Roll Call

If my canoe counts as a boat, I'm in.

The Good: Low water launches not a problem.
The Bad: My range has really dwindled since I turned 50. Paddle must be defective...

Re: In Advance, Please Forgive Me For This Rant

Amidst the gloom, one ray of hope... I don't know if kids in other prep sports are like my cross-country & track athletes, but a good number of the youngsters I coach are bright, involved, and caring of others. At least part of this generation is up to the task of making the most of this crappy ...

Re: In Advance, Please Forgive Me For This Rant

You and I subsidized (i.e. literally paid for with our taxes) the bailout of the Savings & Loan fiasco in the 1990s, to the tune of about $2000 per taxpayer. Exactly the same thing happened in the last few years, with the sub-prime mortgage taxpayer rip-off. Let me be more specific: when the top...
