This is a common problem on St Joe & here are a couple of suggestions given to me from Mr Presnell many years ago. Start fishing as early as possible - as the water warms during the day the grass problem increases. If the wind blew hard from the north the day before, expect the grass to be heavy...

The Cooks Bayou Marina owner's name is Lynn (850) 874-8300. The fishing is great for trout & reds just about anywhere there are grassbeds. We usually leave the bayou & head south and fish the grassbeds on both sides of the bay.

If you have not pulled the trigger, another great Garmin handheld is the Montana 600. You can add Bluechart maps to the Montana for $100 or add Google Earth/Bing Satellite images for free.
