Lanark Vacation

Took a week's vacation at Lanark, and stayed at a nice little fishin' cabin on the bay. Wonderful time. The better half was with me for several days, a couple of friends went on the fishing parts. The Report: Sunday: Checked in, watched the Sunset with a Corona and lime, grilled a grouper fillet tha...

Usually not, depending on where you are putting in your boat. They also can be caught at the Oar Wakulla, K tower, Apalachicola and Franklin County Artificial reefs. Generally, these sites are five miles or so closer in than Yam. Use hardtails for the best chance at an instant hookup. Catch the hard...

They will respond to fine chum thrown out behind the boat and will hit small pieces of shrimp or fish on a small hook. Good fishing for kids or if you are desperate for any kind of action. I kept one once and ate it. Dark meat, strong taste, kinda like mullet. I won't keep another, but they are pret...

Buddy of mine, Danny Riley, fly fishes exclusively, and mostly for trout and reds. Danny catches a lot of fish, and has a room in his house dedicated to nothing but tying flies. He has boxes of different materials. There is a local fly fishing club, I believe, where you can get lots of advice. Those...

St. Marks, Offshore and Inshore - from Eddie Joe

I normally fish outta Lanark, but was concerned about the wind (of course, it was nice all day, but no harm done), so buddy Al and I went to St. Marks. Found the seas light, wind out of the East about 5k, so we headed offshore to a spot about 15 miles S of the sea buoy. Trolled there for a while, no...

Plug:

Nice report. I guess that the "unmovable objects" you hooked were either big sting rays or big nurse sharks. Have caught both and if on a rocky area, my guess is nurse shark.

When I was Director of Marine Resources we used to have a specific designated person who would take all "mullet jumping" questions. There were always the possibles about parasites, etc., but, more or less, the answer given was "because they feel like it".

Indy: My guess is he was looking at Solunar Tables, which are based on the position of the sun and moon in relation to the earth. Certainly these are also factors in the tidal cycle. Solunar tables can be found online. Do a Google. The times do seem to matter, but as a guy that works during the week...

Will: I have caught spanish at St. Marks even in February, always in the same place - in the drop off south of the big sand bar running east from the bird rack. They are gorging on small minnows, and casting or trolling where you see them jumping will load the boat. Water depth is 8-12' deep. But......

Banshee:

This time of year is when the sea bass make little sea bass. The big males take on a blue color and grow a bump on their head for the reproductive time. We always call the big ones "blue heads" .

And the actual (at least at c-tower) was 11-14k, out of the SW-W. But, that isn't 15-20 out of the NW, as they forecast.

They aren't going to get any better, either. When I gripe, they tell me off.
