plug: There is actually a publication that lists all of the abbreviations. I bought it but don't know where I put it right now. I have found the pub (Chart No. 1) on the NOAA/NOS site, and the url is: http://pollux.nss.nima.mil/pubs/pubs_j_show_sections.html?vt=ON&dpath=Chart1&ptid=3&rid...

I dunno. Probably refugees coming up to buy cheap gas. Nobody goes to Georgia from Florida to fish saltwater. In my day, we went to buy firecrackers and pecans, and to see red clay.

Its just a joke, with a layer of truth.

I know this will get me in trouble, but folks that come up on you, anchored 10 miles from no place, we used to say were using
"Georgia LORAN". Usual suspects were in a 24' Walkaround Proline, the "Official Offshore Boat of the State of Georgia".

That can be really frustrating. Even though they deserve it, you really can't hit them with a sinker or threaten to beat the stew out of them. Other than being incredibly bad form, parking their sorry selves right next to your boat isn't illegal. If you hurt or say you will hurt them it is you that ...

Yep. Definition below:

Pecker Fish: Small, annoying fish that peck at your bait. Also, fish about the size of a boy's apparatus.

Dean:

Sounds pretty close to the day that we had, but nice to be out. On the little dude, hope his hand is OK, because that is one painful wound. Be sure to keep an eye on it, because it is easy to infect.

Luck,

Lanark Report from Eddie Joe

Me an fishing buddy Al left Tally at 5:00, to hopefully beat the holiday weekend bozos and other assorted characters to the ramp. At 6:30, the main Lanark parking lot was full, even though it was still dark. We launched OK, and headed to a bait spot to catch some threads and blue runners for the off...

I bought one of the blue water thunders at the FS show, and discussed it with the vendor. Basically, it is the same as the other thunders, but with beefed up hardware for heavier line classes and fish. I was advised to use it with 3-4 foot of leader, not putting the hook directly on it. I suppose yo...

Depends on which P-line you want. Local stores only have some, not all of the varieties. I have had to order the Flouroclear from Bass Pro, nobody carries it here.

LF: The 115 Yam gets about 3-4 mpg, depending on conditions. Calm is best and not going into the wind. The 170 Aquasport has such a high bow profile that I actually believe it cuts down on mpg/speed. You can really tell when you are heading into a brisk wind. Trimmed up, the boat will go from 42-44 ...

Nice trout. Doesn't look as rough as I thought it would be. I wound up dropping my boat into Lake Talquin so I could fix the trailer. No fishing.

Glad you guys did well.

Glad you are enjoying your Aquasport. Even though it is a long way off, buying a new motor will be interesting. I looked hard at the four strokes, but with our boat they are too heavy in the stern. Even my 115 SWS two stroke is a tad heavy, but the 90 Yam could not be had in the SWS (with more stain...

Fish: I also have a 1986 Aquasport 170, and it has been very good to me. I repowered with a Yammie and bought a new trailer, but the boat lives on. I do believe it is worth at least a handheld GPS, though, and safety would suggest it is a good idea. By the way, I have LORAN, a fixed mount GPS with d...

First, Dog Island Reef is just an area of shallow to mid depth grass bed that goes several miles between east end of Dog Island and Alligator Point. It can be an excellent spot for spanish mackerel, blues, cobia, tarpon, sharks, and trout. It drops of to 20' on the land side pretty quick. Getting ar...

If a trout or other fish looks small, or I am clearly not going to keep it (read, lady fish) I do not bring it into the boat (or on the beach). Instead, I have a hookout device that allows me to unhook the fish without touching it with my hands, and just let it drop into the water. Sometimes, I leav...
