Agreed, and thats why I mentioned Florida boys, too. However, there seem to be more practitioners of the "Look for another boat offshore and park next to them" fishing method from the great state of Georgia. This is, I believe an accident of geography. More folks come down from farther awa...

Back in the old days, we used to call that practice of anchoring up next to a boat offshore "Georgia LORAN". Now we call it "Georgia GPS". The method is used, I think, by folks who don't have any numbers, and either don't know about good manners or who don't care enough in any ca...

It is a silver colored, tall bodied, but thin fish caught in the area, but more frequently caught west toward Panama City. Ones I catch are pretty small, a pound or two, but they do get bigger. On the head boats the mates call them "silver snapper", kinda like party boat guys around here c...

Today (12/29) Off Dog Island

Due to the cold weather, I took my time getting up this morning, so I was not heading out of the ramp at Lanark until about 9. Had a bag of Alewives and some old squid for bait, but it was just me fishing, so I figured that would be fine. Weather was a bit chilly, but it warmed quickly. Winds variab...

Eddie Joe's Saturday at Lanark

Left the ramp about 7, and went to the cove at DI to net some menhaden. Just a few around, so we had to work hard. Then went to a buoy and sabikied up some thread herring and small blue runners. Offshore to 60' to the first spot, and caught one nice gag on a flyline, only shorts on the bottom. To K-...

Tom:

So this was the west (mainland side) jetty and the west side of it where you had all of the hits?

Doc:

Hope you had the unlimited coverage with Sea Tow, otherwise I'm sure you wished you did. A four hour ride both ways is a BUNCH of money.

Hope you have a better trip next time.

Fishing buddy Al (king of the catfish) and I dropped the Aquasport in about 6:30. Line was not too bad, although lots of the tarpon boys, all spiffy in their Mavericks, Hewes, and Egrets, were working to get in quick. We decided it was too soon after the cool weather for poons. We had planned to sti...

Hey Tom:

What happened at the Destin meeting? The FS site is down, so no news there.

Psycho: You don't need a tarpon tag to catch and release a tarpon, just don't linger on the release. You DO need a non-resident salt water fishing license (you are from out of state, right), though. If you bring a tarpon to the boat, after taking the hook out (don't gaff!) hold him (her) by the lowe...

Bones:

Last time I went out I managed to run PP around my prop, too. Luckily, I could cut the line and gradually pull it off. Thought I would have to go in the water at first to clear it. Scary.

I lost an anchor too, not too long ago.

Fishin: I have a 1986 17' Aquasport which I have owned since 92, when I bought it used. The boat has been good for a 17, and can be used on the flats, bay, or offshore on a calm day. It came with a 90 horse johnson, which never stranded me on the water but was not built for saltwater. It just rusted...
