Re: Trolling strategies

Good advice so far. I’d add keep
boat in gear when the hit comes and a tight line. Also make sure if you are using braid to have a maybe 10’ mono leader for shock and only apply enough drag to just prevent line coming off at troll

Re: Fall snapper season?

Updated

No fall season for regular Florida anglers. Unless you have $ for a commercial guide or buy a snapper meal at a restaurant.

Re: Fall snapper season?

Yeah, the FWC is too busy weighing in on the state bird and Desantis is busy fining Leon County.

Come back later, after the commercial guide boats catch the fish. Maybe.

Re: Who’s ready to go Goliath grouper diggin?

Isn’t the slot 14-30”? Never seen one that small up here. That’s a mangrove fish. Why bother.

Re: Last snapper trip for the season

Regarding which anglers are “worse” characters concerning fishing behavior on boats it’s probably still a Georgia win, at least around here. But plenty of Florida clowns, too. As much as anything I do harbor about 50 years of past Georgia boating fisherman events while I was on the water that colors...

Last snapper trip for the season

Went Monday the 26th out of Carrabelle. Seas calm enough to drive my 20’ cc @ 35 mph out and 30 back in. Water temp 84 at the surface. Stopped at my deepest offshore number 22 miles south of Dog Island, but it was dead. Decided to go a couple of miles further south and look around. Spotted a bottom ...

Re: Gag Grouper Trolling Setup

I also recommend using a soft tip rod and a lever drag reel. Adjust the drag to just hold while trolling. Then you can tighten when you pick up the rod to the strike position when hit. I never use more than two lines at once.

Re: Smell on Hwy. 98 east of Lanark

Exactly right. That spot gets a lot of dead sea grass, especially with an east wind. Rots and smells. Has been so for many years.

Perfect timing

Can ya believe it? Opening day of grouper season = 25 kt winds. Need a bigger boat.

Re: 1/30 Ochlocknee River and Bay

Nope, that isn’t a silver or sand trout. It’s commonly called silver perch, or Bairdiella chrysoura, the scientific name.
Pesky little buggers that love a shrimp under cork in winter creeks where larger trout also feed.

Re: EPRIB or PLB?

I bought both. One mounted on the boat. One on my body. Correct me if I'm wrong but if an Eprib is registered and attached to a boat, don't you have to stay with the boat to be found should something happen? ) Its attached to the boats console on a quick release mount. If given time, I can manually...

Re: Monster at S tower

FWIW, my opinion is not a cuda. I’ve easily caught log sized versions at the towers and using a big spinner they make one big run, maybe two, then give up. Really fairly wimpy. Again, bull shark. If dolphins are seen actually taking hooked fish than maybe. Goliaths go down to structure. AJ go down,...
